How many? 45 pennies

9-19-05: 1 in the crosswalk crossing first at Marion (this one is so banged up, I'm not sure if it's really a penny anymore); 1 on the hill of Seneca between 1st Ave. and 2nd Ave.; 1 in the laundry room of Jake's apartment (we both laughed when I picked this one up)

9-20-05: 1 outside of Dan's Belltown Grocery at 3rd and Bell; 1 outside the Markham building on 3rd Ave.; 1 in the garden of my apartment building; 3 in a hole where a tree used to be outside the Easy Street Records

9-23-05: 1 Starbucks on the Plaza Level of my work building, on the floor going towards Bullseye Bakery (the BEST cinnamon rolls around)

9-25-05: 1 outside the Byzantion (Jake tried to hide this one from me, cheater! :) ; 1 outside of Panache

Up to 23 cents

9-4-05: 1 outside Starbucks on Broadway and Republican

9-7-05: 1 in the grass at the Seattle Center near the whale statues

9-8-05: 3 on the corner of 2nd Ave. and Pike (Yes, three of them, all lined up right along the curb. I had to call my boyfriend right then and there or he would never have believed me. I think he still doesn't.)

9-9-05: 1 outside the building 1423 3rd Ave.; 1 on the #36 bus (I made a fool of myself trying to get this penny. I almost fell over as the bus stopped because I was squatting down to retrieve it!)

9-11-05: 1 across the street from Starbucks on Broadway and Republican (I go to this Starbucks too often, but it seems to be helping me on my mission.)

The first 13 pennies

Since I started this blog well after the bet took place, I don't remember exactly where each of the first 13 pennies came from. I think I found one in my parking lot the night the bet started, and another when we went to Bumbershoot.

I will, going forward, document where each penny was found.

The "Bet"

I like to pick up loose change that I find on the street. Not that I really need it, but the thought of free money intrigues me.
This habit of mine upsets my boyfriend. He asked, while having lunch at Bimbo's Bitchin' Burrito Kitchen, if he gave me $3, would I stop picking up pennies for a year. I said, I could probably find $3 worth of pennies just from the ground within a year. That's when it started. He said there's no way I could do it. So, I set out on my mission: to collect three hundred pennies, from any public place, in one year.
It was also his idea to write a blog about it. I don't think anyone will find this fascinating enough, but what the heck. I'm a little interested to see where I find my pennies. Let's begin....
